In a sense, I feel like there's this sort of persona that these pirates, kings, couldn't put an on. They're coming off as ruthless and bloodthirsty leaders who you wouldn't dare cross him. But in reality, he's unequal foot in with the rest of the crew. And he only has his position based on their consent. It's interesting that the idea of using narratives as a weapon of war in this context is like the pirates were able to spin simultaneous mythologies about themselves for different purposes at different times. We should not necessarily look to historic pirates for guidance on how we act in the modern world," she says.
