The Importance of Rapid Turnaround Time for Procalcitonin Levels

The Procalcitonin level should be low if it's virus, but it could be on the way up if the patient has got us shakes and chills. Some of the literature is confounding because they just draw a single ProcalCitonin level. So we recommend two ProCalcitonins. We usually get the result back in an hour. And that's why when patients are admitted to the hospital with community acquired pneumonia or in the emergency room withcommunity acquired pneumonia, we say yes, the Procalcitation levels need to go up.
