i wondered if there was a part of you that felt almost obliged to allow for make room for agency or free will because this is a book for children. i think the key difference is between will and free will yes we obviously have desires but are these choices really free? I think it's pointless to go into an endless philosophical discussion is there free will it's not as a starting point  it kills curiosity There is nothing to investigate if you just take it for granted that every decision you make is simply the outcome of your free will, he says.
