How to Live With the Los Angeles Earthquakes
The first time we talked about building codes was after the 1925 Santa Barbara earthquake, 6.8. The total number of people that we expect to die in our biggest San Andreas earthquake is equal to seven years of traffic deaths just in LA County. You're far more likely to die on the freeway than to die in an earthquake. But one of the things we do not sufficiently worry about is the economic impact of earthquakes.
