The city of Pata dias sat on an isthmus at the narrowest point of the Pelenny peninsula. The Halkidiki looks like three fingers that stick out into the northern Aegean from Thrace They were a colony of Corinth, they were also a member of the Athenian alliance. Because Greek colonies were fully autonomous there was nothing illegal about this But in an accliment of escalating tensions Pata Dias ambiguous identification was likely to be a source of strain between Athens and Corinth.
