There's always been a natural connection from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, but especially in the 1900s, people expanded it. The worst species to come out of it is probably the lamprey,. It's basically like a massive leech with teeth. And by the 1950s, they were killing over 100 million pounds of Great Lakes fish per year.
