Utilitarianism and Intuitionism
There are lots of notorious distortions of, but also extensions of, utilitarian philosophy that seem to end up logically with intolerable conclusions. The absurdity for rules comes from the fact that it doesn't take people seriously as individuals and claims to be valuing their pleasure. So if we can't calculate the answer to what is justice, we have to fall back on what our gut tells us. But intuitionism is just prejudice. It's too dependent on where people find themselves. It's not reliable if you have to build a society on intuitions.
