Self Emancipated Men Enlist in the Union Army
Before the thirteenth amendment, self emancipated men were not allowed to enlist in the union army. Many of them insisted on their families being freed and welcomed into camps before they agreed to fight. Joseph miller's entire family was evicted from camp nelson during a storm by speed s fry. He later died while he was still expected to continue serving in the army.
