Dostoevsky was obsessed with the concept of the sacred, which he thought had disappeared from societya. He didn't much like priests and some of the governmental organized religion but monasteries are where it was tat. In his novels there is this really in depth pre-froidian examination of human psychology. And that's one of the newest aspects of freud as an existentialist.
