The Seven Heavens of Medieval Cosmology
The Seven Heavens of Medieval Cosmology are described as spiritual symbols of permanent value. They were like archetypes in the human imagination and Lewis wanted to re-vivify them for the modern imagination. In English each day is named after one of these Seven Heavens or Seven Planets. So think Saturday, Saturday, Sunday, Sunday. The Sun and the Moon were regarded as planets back in medieval times with Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus.
