The Power of Repetition

The idea of repetition and Thanatos as a kind of repetition, I think has as its base, or at least a sort of adjunct concept is a notion of self preservation. And this is one of the things that Hillman actually notices in his book on aging called The Force of Character. There's another way in which certain repetitions, like addiction, for example, that are ordinarily associated with a death drive can have this kind of grip on you to the extent that it excludes other potencies.
