How Does Lucy's Background Change How You View People in Your Life?

Shame is what she grew up with. She felt shame every single day at school when the kids would say your family stinks. So Lucy's entire background is sadly one of shame. And yet, you know, in O'William when he pulls a car over and he says, Lucy, I married you because you were filled with joy. That's Lucy. Her nature was able to be a joyful nature in spite of all that shame. Can you read a passage from an author that speaks to you or influenced you as a writer? Right. I will read just a couple of paragraphs from a William Trevor story so we get situated right away.
