The Magonistas fought to overthrow Portfirio Diaz, the president of Mexico in 1911. The revolution left as many as two million dead and another million people fled country for U.S. Frida Ghitis: One of the impacts of the Mexican revolution on the United States is the birth of the Mexican-American population. She says that a generation after the mass migration, Mexican-Americans in the U.S., will be more likely to identify with their ancestors' plight.
