The Hindoo Synthesis of the Gupta Empire
Under oshoka and the later moria emperors, the empire tended to suppress the study of the vedas. And more and more turned society in the direction of buddhism. There also was a growth of gianism. But brahmins who were distributed around the different towns and villages all around india provided a natural leadership class that undertook a so called hindu synthesis.
