For people used to american culture, this is a big difference. In the uk, it is pretty rare for t v shows to have a laughter track. This is especially true with some of the most famous comedies from recent decades. Almost nobody laughs on screen ever. It's almost like it's a competition. The person hearing the joke, first has to laugh, and only then are you allowed to laugh. Or if you are being very british, nobody laughs. There's normally no sign no signal about what is a joke or not.
