When there's messy problems, the ordinary contributor does their job and the impact player does the job that needs to be done. When roles are unclear, ordinary contributors are waiting for direction, waiting for someone to appoint them. The impact players step up and lead but they're also quick to step back. And it's not that they do other people's work for them. It's that they're easy to work with. They're low.
