CHAPTER

The Importance of Feeling

animism is normative in the sense that it was never described as anything other than simply the way things are. Thirdly, animism is an abstract overlay of belief that is applied to the world through mental constructs and not just felt somatic experience. What I really want to convey here, in addition to this simple breadth and scope, is a feeling. You felt it, I know you have, all but the deadest of us have felt it. A feeling that is so fundamental, so familiar, so primal, so foundational, that we wander like lost children without it. It just might be the thing that saves us in the end.
