If people are not using waste energy, then they're not going to be around for a long time. We've seen that in Bitcoin mining this last year with companies going bankrupt. And I would argue that's a healthy thing. At the end of the day, only the strongest are going to survive. The central governing bodies are handing out keys to that network and they're picking the winners.
