The Deconstruction of Film Noir
Post-structuralism was a term that sort of gained traction in the late 70s, the early 1980s in North America to describe what seemed to those critics to be a break with structuralism itself. And so they talked about film noir, this black film is dark film, you know, which had these kind of like angst ridden male characters and femme fatale. So retroactively that category of films that we now think of as film noir was created by the critics themselves.
