mindfulness training helps people pay attention as they smoke. As they pay attention, they see how rewarding that behavior is right now. And we can then mathematically model changes in reward value through these two researches. In the seventies, research found level of reward correlates with firing to brain activity and reward will mean vrything for smokers. So simply paying attention as they smoked helps them change that behavior in an effortless way. They don't have to force themselves.
