One of the surest ways to impart neurodegenerative disease onto a mouse is to knock out the genes responsible for autophagy. We don't have perfect models for Parkinson's disease because we use either toxic exposures or genetic models, which there's no one's eyes fits all. But if you look at the genetic models for the disease, really one of the main genes called GBA. And what happens is that enzyme gets stuck and it can't break down glucose vingosines.
