Is It Worth Doing Something About Asteroid Impacts?

The probability that an asteroid is going to impact on the earth at a level that be civilization destroying is incredibly small once every 100 million years or so on average. So you might say, well, okay, what and then you ask, is it worth doing something about and you ask, what does it cost? And it turns out it doesn't cost a lot to maybe defend us against it's probably costs less to defend us against an asteroid than these wild arguments about moving people to Mars. But that's the kind of dialogue you can have. That's thekind of thing that science can give us.
