Jonathan Inquiry: Are we seeing an opposite kind of danger, too much groupishness and not enough abstract individuals? Jonathan Inquiry: I think the most damaging or deadening aspects of what often goes under the name identity politics reflects a reaction against the demand that we separate ourselves from communities. When there are not constructive opportunities to do this, when our public life is uninviting to the expression of morally robust, situated identities, then is a kind of back lash for people assert with a vengeance. This is what i think we're seeing.
