John Madden: I think really at the heart of it, it's making a choice in your own brain to say, there's gotta be something good this person is doing. Even if it's 90% bad and making that mental shift can help you to see things you might not have seen if you were just being the deficit detective. You could also use open a new questions to get to that. He says he learned how to do that in primary care, but actually take this technique into office visits with physicians who only have like five minute visits. "It's about saying, you know, can I ask an open new question and make a reflective statement," said Madden.
