Vietnamese does not overtly mark Tense, but it has things to fall back on if it wants to for clarity. The point of the Vietnamese thing is especially its anterior marker is very, very bleached of any other semantic sense. It's not an adverb. It is effectively a relative Tense marker. So you've kind of ditched T tense, but you've got a way to fall back.
