The left was demoralized, beaten down, sidelined. It kind of revelled in its own powerlessness, right? I mean, i'll never forgetad i wrote about this at the time. What really struck me that first day occupi wall street, september seventeenth, even though there was probably only 400 people. Imet for me to see all these fresh faces, even though objectively it wasn't very many, was astonishing. They weren't the same old people from the same meetings and the same tiny protests,. And so i was like, wal something's going on. There's new people here.
