What Happened to Platonism in Western Philosophy?

Platonism continued to exert strong influence even after the rise of nominalism in Western philosophy. If you reject Christian Platonism, by implication you're rejecting much by far the most indeed of the Christian tradition. And invariably that shows up in the way that people do the theologizing. Something happened to unseat the Platonic element in Western culture and to unseat it also in many corners of the Christian faith.
