The Importance of Intuition in Animal Ethics

The Vulcan from Star Trek has no effective states at all, but nonetheless has very rich both sensory consciousness and cognitive consciousness. To me, the amount of pleasure and suffering they're undergoing seems to be a relatively small consideration on top of the great value conferred by their consciousness. So I think it's just very hard to like, intuitively grasp that idea. And there's also the fact that if you start engaging in violence against other agents who can retaliate, then that's going to end up being a bad idea.
