The Effects of Safety Equipment on Automobile Traffic Deaths
The number of automobile traffic deaths per vehicle mile traveled in the United States has declined remarkably over time. But what you don't see is I take this nice superimposed on top of it all sorts of safety stuff, such as crumple zones and airbags. It suggests that these things don't necessarily have any real effect or at least that there's something else much more important going on.
