The laws were passed in order to protect black Americans from the Ku Klux Klan. And then the Supreme Court says, no, no, that can't be what it means. Are they explicitly saying we want theKu Klux Klan to terrorize people? No, but is that the sort of obvious, predictable consequence? So okay. The Supreme Court at the time in this period of white supremacy decided to invalidate some of these laws.
