The Soviet Union was in a position where some of its fundamental goals were just incompatible with it participating in the global economy. And so, you know, socialism in one country, if you are a old school Marxist, you'll say that can't work. But again, the Marxist Leninist kind of had to adopt that perspective because they had no ability to force other countries to do anything.
