The Strand and the Rivelly

The Strand would not be Roxie's only theater of course because he would soon go on to manage or as they called it direct, the programs of several other movie palaces that would be built just a couple years later. The 1900 seat Rialto which opened at the corner of 7th Avenue and 42nd Street in 1916 was designed by architect Thomas Lamb in a classical style. And then the next year in 1917 there was the 2000 seat Rivelly Theater which opened up at Broadway in 49th Street who also had its own orchestra and choir. Both of them it says under the direction of S.L. Rothafel. Ooh so what was playing? It was January
