Is There Evidence of a Party in the Regime?

The idea that ruling parties are central to regime a durability has been such a big argument in the authoritarian regimes literature, yet the empirical support has actually been very, kind of shaky this whole time. Causeoyou argues we should move beyond that as well. Some parties are more institutionally strong than others; some autocracies are way more independent and active than others. But because institutions have just become so common, it's they're not superhelpful in helping us understand variation and regime durability.
