i didn't want to create a piece of work that, by excluding northern cities, made it seem as if the south was the only area engaged in this practice. And people don't realize always that new york city was the second largest slave market in the country for an extended period of time. Or that the statue of liberty was originally conceived of as a gift to t united states, celebrating the abolition of slavery. But overtime had its meaning shifted and changed because you had millions of people who were not necessarily supportive of something that was celebrating.
