Are We Going to Mars as Great Pioneers?
I think human spaceflight should be left to the billionaires and their sponsors. Then, of course, you do it more cheaply. But going to Mars is very, very expensive and dangerous for humans. The only people who would go would be these adventurers - maybe on one more trip. And I expect, and I've ever hoped, that by the end of a century, there will be a small community of such people on Mars. It's far easier to deal with climate change on Earth than to terraform Mars to make it probably habitable to humans.
