Freud's Analogies to the City of Rome

For Freud, archeology and psychoanalysis always exist in a dynamic relationship. The main difference between them lies in the fact that for the archaeologists, the reconstruction is the aim and end of his endeavors. For analysis the construction is only a preliminary labor. That's another long analogy, just like in civilization and its discontents. And as I said, the analogy is there throughout Freud's work, but it's never a fixed and stable analogy.
