Is There a Precedent to Ecosystem Theory?

In ecosystems theory, a really functioning ecosystem creates the ability for more life to occur. And this is where policy on things like net zero and climate change might be one of the levers by which we tweak that ecosystem to become healthier. I find it bizarre that dog owners treat their animals like or better than members of their family but are happy to consume vast quantities of factory-farmed meat. The biggest impact they have is this vast amount of meat and fish. There's lots of work on changing our pets' diets with no kind of deleterious effects for cats themselves.
