The Importance of Purity in the Christian Scriptures

For me, I see scripture as a record of communities of people trying to make sense of their place in the world. And we have now this record to draw upon that still informs and influences our lives. What does it mean to live ethically under capitalism? What does it means to be a part of an empire that is the United States? Like, what does it look like to be a good neighbor?
