Optimism and Hope in the Environment
Hope is not based on external circumstances, but where this situation fits in the bigger picture. We might say it is seeing as rather than simply seeing that. I understand hope to be a discipline, not a sentiment, not a feeling. It reminds me of a poem by Wendell Berry: Whatever is foreseen and joy must be lived out from day to day.
