Don't beat yourself up about paying taxes. Why in the world would you want your retirement accounts to grow less so that you paid less in taxes? That's dumb. You want them to grow. It's better if you have a higher ratio of money in a tax protective account than you do in a taxable account because it grows faster there. Think deliberately, pick crappy investments that don't grow just so you pay less taxes on it.
