The Early Jesuits in Europe in Sackcloth
Melvin: Amazkuzashiroi is a semi-divine character, but we don't know much about him. I think that's partly why the Jesuits are so optimistic early on. Some of the tactics that might work elsewhere in the world for missionary work don't work in Japan. And when the missionaries move to use the word Deus in Latin for God, some of the Buddhists very offended and start talking about Daioso - which means great lie in Japan. So it's quite a steep learning curve, isn't it, for those missionaries early on?
