The Century of Humiliation in China
The 19th century is often seen as a period of wars, destructions and rebellions. But it was also a time of cosmopolitan interconnection between places in the world. The revolution of 1911 was partly about restoring ethnic Chinese rule after Manchu Qing rule. Sun Yat-sen drew very eclectically from Western ideas to restore China's sovereignty.
