The Relationship Between Low and No Calorie Sweeteners and Cancer

The controversy is stimulated by media outlets that grab a hold of and exaggerate and recycle negative findings from studies on low and no calorie sweeteners. To receive regulatory approval in the US, for example, from the FDA, these compounds are studied in depth from numerous aspects including toxicology, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity in representative animal models. Unlike FDA approval of pharmaceuticals, low and no calories sweeteners are approved by FDA through a lengthy well-defined food additive process or another process called generally recognized as safe.
