McKay is too funny to give us a two and a half hour film without at least some laughs. Meril streep as a president palin sort or kate blanchett as a cross between mika brazinski and kathy lee gifford, is fabulous. Mc kay pretty much bludgeons us with his dismay and makes a film that really only works for an audience that's already on board. Luckily for mckay, the academy told everyone they are such an audience, and that they find it hard to imagine anyone who isn't.
