The essence of memetic theory? Someone walks up to you at a but stop and asks you, what's this rene gerard guy all about? What do you tell him? Yes, so i think one kind of nice thing about gerard, as compared to some of his other sort of french theory temporaries, is he's actually relatively easy to explain in this way. So the the fundamental notion is memesis or imitation. The basic observation is that people want because other people want and people want specific things because other people already want them. And then inevitably those two, um, will come into conflict in some form.
