Is OPAT Really the Best Treatment for This Patient?
There is some literature to suggest that the rates of follow up might be a little bit lower in that patient population, but that literature was published as a former colleague of mine, Dr. Sheridan at the University of Pittsburgh publishes I think back in 2014. One of our addiction providers here at University of Kentucky, Laura Fungi, who is also a co-author on the AHA statement is the PI on a study that's ongoing currently looking at performing OPAT versus usual care. Do we think that IV antibiotics are truly the superior treatment for this patient? And I think there are some questions to that as well too.
