What Happens When You Lose Your Voice?

When you lose your voice, it is because we have lost the ability for the vocal folds to do their vibration. That can happen from swelling or from new stiffness from something like a blood vessel breaking. So shouting in particular can put blood vessels at risk in the voice box to break. When the vibration stops, then you get no sound or reduced sound or reduced reliability of the sound.
