Is It the Process or the Productivity That Matters?
We value works of art both because of the outcome, namely that it's a beautiful thing that moves us and we find sublime. But you also think, gosh, isn't it remarkable that a human being created that? I think for many things in the profession, often what we want is just a better outcome. We want our taxes done more efficiently and more effectively. And so to that extent, something like the alpha fold, which is a system developed by DeepMind to solve the protein folding problem in biology. It wasn't being creative, but it was solving this important problem. The fact is it made those discoveries and that's what matters.
