The Justice Department's Response to Donald Trump's De Classification Argument
The espionage act covers the possession of national secrets and classified documents. The justice department response is that the espionage act does not require that the documents be classified. So it concerns the nature of the information, not the label that is put on it. And so there's no proof that trump actually did this in any formal way. They are treating these documents as though they are classified.
