The Gordian Knot at the Center of Virtue Ethics
Tyler: How does one avoid the paradox that the harder we try to attain virtue, the farther we are from achieving it? I'm thinking specifically of Bonhoeffer's ethics, where he essentially says, as soon as we are done in good from evil, we've already failed. In order to really be virtuous, you have to choose the good for its own sake and love it. The more you do that, the more you will find out what works for you at a certain point.
